'We are distanced from each other, but we have never left each other behind.'
It was unimaginable to think that it takes great effort to leave our home country today. The lessening opportunities to be in crowds and with people push us to be with ourselves. We welcome all the possible twists and turns while fearing their arrival. As wanderers of the world, people garner time to be with themselves. Some get to take a breather, but some feel indescribable pain in such solitude. Walking into the darkened night and on the border of the seemingly forever circulating loneliness, despair is, however, not the only feeling that exists inside us. It has become normality to isolate oneself from the world and people ever so abruptly in this pandemic era. Perhaps, the strangest affair of all is not the foreign countries or others but the self on which we are afraid to look back, albeit it might be the only actual existence we have known.
After being nominated by the National Art Exhibition and longlisted by the UK’s Aesthetica Art Prize with Nest, Endospace once again invited Japanese electronic musician DJ U-CAN to collaborate with team member VJ KUT on the theme of Dissociation. Using the soothing quality of music naturally possesses, visualizing it on digital images, projecting onto stage space with Hologauze technology, the blended musicality in Eastern culture exists gently yet with high contrast in the visualization of new media, making it a magnificent scenery of nature or even a fleeting street view in a movie. Dissociation shows how we embarked on spiritual journeys in the real world, documenting a miscellaneous of profound and resplendent views.
This is Endospace’s first official ticket selling audio-visual performance. The performance takes about forty-five minutes. The first fifteen minutes will be a warm-up performance by new media artist Tsai Ning, using the visuals created by generative art and combining experimental noises as the starting point of the performance. Taiwanese and Japanese DVJ then collaborate with light artist aka Chang on the thirty-minute hologauze projection performance. The whole performance will be shot and recorded by a professional director and filming team to bring audiences a pleasant experience. The performance will go live on 3/12 (Saturday) and 3/13 (Sunday). The performance on 3/12 will be rebroadcasted on 3/19 (Saturday), and 3/13’s performance on 3/20 (Sunday). New media art lovers must not miss it!
Glossary: Hologauze is a screen made with special gauze. It perfectly presents the image from the projection with high transmittance, giving the projected image a suspended feeling and creating a translucently splendid visual effect.
Dissociation is the work with which Endospace returns to its beginning after ten years, hoping to regenerate new creative imaginations.
